Ukraine could lose 2012

2009 is the deadline. The latest it could be taken away from Ukraine is 2009. The estimate of attendees is 400,000 to over a 1,000,000 for 2012.

As of this moment, Kyiv has 4,000 hotel rooms. What is required is all the logistics incl. infrastructure (roads, parking, planes, trains, etc.) and upgrading facilities such as hospitals and clinics, the building of stadiums, the upgrading of dormitories such as in Donetsk for low cost renting, the settling of the conflict at the Olympic stadium in Kyiv (removal of shopping centre which makes it unsafe), the building of walkway to metro station, ... And there is a to-do list not just for Kyiv but for Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, etc.

"Both countries face huge tasks in building or modernising stadiums, hotels, and transport networks." Actually it is more than just that because not only must one house and transport and entertain the guests but also welcome them (country-wide crash course in english), feed them, care for them (medical services), keep them safe and anticipate all other possiblities everything from Internet access to omiyage. Ukrainians have a great reputation for hospitality (and deservedly so) but the clock is ticking. Time to get cracking.

Good news that Ukraine and Poland have signed agreements regarding mutual cooperation between the police forces of both countries regarding security for the creation of a committee to deal with all issues. (click on sm icon of videocam in upper right hand of picture for video)
