About as sophisticated as the other Eurovision entries
Ukrainians have voted Vera Serduchka this year's Eurovision entry. There are so many things to find funny with this. There is the video of his contribution. There is the English version of the lyrics . There is the Russian version (Русские! Ну, ручки!; Украина це клево!; Нихт ферштейн..).
Or perhaps, the funniest part is the protest from some Ukrainian nationalists who are worried he's going to give people the wrong impression of Ukrainians. The good impression presumably being the one presented by Ruslana when she won the contest wearing torn leather hot-pants.
Or perhaps the reaction from some in Russia: irate that Vera would have the audacity to say goodbe to the country (Ай вонт ю си (4раза); Раша гуд бай…), or perhaps for having the audacity to say "Hands up! Ukraine is cool!; And Ukrainians love dancing? They love it! Dance, Maidan!; О,кей, хеппи енд." How touchy does one have to be to get irritated about that?
Or that, after all the problems with Russia, Serduchka stated that the lyric "Russia, goodbye" will be replaced by "lasha tumbai" (now also in the title), which means whipping cream in Mongolian.
I know how he feels. Sometimes politics drives me to speak Mongolian, too.
