Ukraine Daily Report - Yuliya Tymoshenko on her goals as PM

Hi All! So since January of this year, the Ukraine Daily Report online newspaper has been coming out again. Throughout December the paper was suspended, while publisher and owner Yevhen Hrebeniuk was active in the Orange Revolution. But now they're back. They're a great business resource, with lots of economis, finance, and business that doesn't get into most English language articles. (which usually confine themselves to politics, foreign relations, or cultural interest, with some nationwide economics)

I refrained from posting a link to their site while publication was suspended, and have only now remembered to correct that. The daily itself costs money, but you can look through articles in their excellent archive for free and see if you'd like to buy it.

As a disclaimer, I worked as their lead editor from 11/03-04/04. You can calculate my bias accordingly.

Here is a free teaser, the headline for January 26:

TYMOSHENKO SPEAKS ON HER CHANCES TO PASS VR VOTE, AND PRIORITIES
Yuliya Tymoshenko started to perform the duties of Interim Premier at 9am on Jan 25. Speaking on her chances to pass the Verkhovna Rada acceptance vote, Tymoshenko said, "There will be many votes in my support - many more than is required by the law [226 votes are needed to approve the Premier]. I talked to almost all VR factions and groups and they are ready to support me." Answering the question of what would be her first steps as Premier, Tymoshenko said that she is tempted to start everything simultaneously and added, "However, we should start with what will give the citizens the immediate feeling that the administration has changed and that they can find a job, earn enough, and not feel the touch of corruption." She stated that the major goal of the new Cabinet would be tax reform and decreasing the shadow economy.
Tymoshenko again repeated that some major strategic enterprises, like Kryvorizhstal which were "openly stolen," need to be returned to state ownership and reprivatized. "Then they [enterprises] will be put on open tenders. If the privatization was legal, but the price understated, they will be put up again for sale and the current owner will have the priority right to pay more money to the state budget to keep control of the enterprise," Tymoshenko said.
Speaking about relations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation Tymoshenko said, "I want them to be very strong and eliminate all of the phobias which were born by the PR technologists." Tymoshenko also commented on the issue of the open criminal cases against her family. She said, "My husband is still hiding abroad. I would not risk bringing him here before our family is completely justified. All criminal cases against my father-in-law Hennadiy Tymoshenko have been closed. We have submitted appeals on the cases against my husband and other friends to the Supreme Court."
