« New Yushchenko Connections - how to get the election newswire | Main | Style over Substance II »

I'm volunteering with the Yushchenko camp now

Big news, after communicating with the folks from Yushchenko's press service, I'm now registered as an Editor/Writer with Yushchenko's International Election Update Newsline. I'll be taking content and putting it out to an English audience.

I will probably put most of the stories out on Orange Ukraine as well - all the latest breaking news from Yushchenko's side. In addition, I can get into events as a press representative now. There's a Timoshenko press conference in 30 minutes. I'll tell you what comes of it.

They could not get a better man. Are this going to news wire agencies - Reuters, AP, Interfax, ...? Rock on and major congratulations. I wrote a post about osce application process but I started to write that before you drew your own personal line in the sand.

That is great news indeed. We need more information (far too long between posts on all sites combined the last few days!)

On concern - what on earth happened to the PORA website? It's just gone - all day Wed and this AM Thurs in the US.

The following is my take on the Kuchma/Moscow plan. It is just my humble opinion and the views expressed are entirely my own. I claim no special knowledge or inside information.

IMHO Russia will become part of the mediating group and with Kuchma's support will drag out the talks. They want a new election in three months, (after the Jan. separatist vote) and with new candidates on both sides. Should Yuschenko voice disapproval of Russia's involvement, it will be used as evidence of his being anti-Russian /backed by Americans.

I believe that they already know who their chosen candidate will be, although it will seem as if they are still deciding: analysts speculate either Tyhypko, Yatsuba or Grynevetsky. Is there an eligible woman? That would be my choice.

When the talks become stalled, if the protestors block govt buildings, Yuschenko will be represented as a man of no principles, for reneging on the ?compromise'. The demonstrators will be dismissed as agitators and/or a mindless mob being manipulated by Yuschenko.

In the meantime, there will be a campaign to try to influence world press and public opinion. Yuschenko will be identified as someone who just wants to become President, at any cost and doesn't care about the country nor its people. That Yuschenko is using the supporters on the streets, by keeping them on the streets out in the cold. The campaign will be conducted via soundbites from the members of the opposition. (see Dec.2 Moscow Times). Else why would he not behave as a reasonable man, - and send his people home. Hasn't a compromise been reached and talks in progress?

There will also be attempts made to change the happy atmosphere of the people in the square, to encourage violence and discredit Yuschenko's primary base of support.

In the meantime, govt. censorship will continue, there will be no media access for Yuschenko in the East - to ensure the passage of the Jan. vote and generate high numbers for the Kuchma candidate.

Very nice blog! Is it possible for you to get some kind of site feed on it? RSS or Atom?

Way to go, Dan!

About the RSS feed, I believe I read that Squarespace doesn't do RSS because of some tech problems. But I do have an XML feed, and another fellow who asked me the same question said that he was able to work it out. I set the feed up for my two main pages: Journal of Election Madness, and Tent City Stories.

About Pora:

GREAT HORNEY TOADS! I can't get on their site either at (whenever the date says on this comment posting) That's a lot later than when you posted about not being able to get on their site. I will try ask around with friends to figure out what happened...

About the Evil Russian Plot:

Excellent evil Russian plot, I like it because it is devious. I think Kuchma is making motions in that direction, but I don't think it will work. This has to do with what I'll call the Discoshaman Diktat - in this election crisis, Discoshaman observed that he had never found a Yushchenko supporter working for money, nor a Yanukovych supporter working for free.

Kuchma can say he feels for the poor protesters, and thousands of them will cry out from the streets around him "Ghanba! - "for shame!". Tymoshenko was making a wily statement in the press conference I got to attend: the opposition is not wholly in control of (read: also not responsible for) the protesters. They want a simple solution. While the protesters are out here banging pots and calling names and meeting in million-person rallies in central Kyiv, the opposition is going to have momentum.

The Evil Russian Plot could only work if the opposition loses that momentum or the supporters go home. I don't think they will.

PORA site - It seems to go up and down. And the last entry is the statement about continuing the picketing of the palace and Kuchma's residence from Dec. 1
Is this the beginning of problems on other sites or an isolated incident?
